Nature and Nostalgia: Home Design Trends of 2024

As we move further into 2024, I’m seeing some clear home design trends emerging that very much align with my ethos, values, and style. At Wild in the Wolds, we believe that your home should tell your story, and the latest design themes are all about doing just that.

In this post, we explore how Retro, Vintage, and Antique Influences, Biophilic Design, and Personalisation are shaping the way we decorate our homes, and how you can bring these to life with a few personal touches.

Retro, Vintage, and Antique Influences

Nostalgia is making a delightful comeback in interior design and styling. The colours, patterns, and rich textures of years gone by are becoming the stars of our homes once more. We’re seeing the charm of mid-century furniture, the elegance of Georgian/Victorian decor, and the playful vibes of the 70s.

Here at Trinity Lodge, we've embraced this with:

  • Vintage Style Lighting: Beautiful chandeliers and lamps that bring a timeless elegance to our rooms. For more details on lighting from one of my favourite brands view this recent article: Pooky Lights - A Symphony of Light

  • Retro Accessories: Amber style glasses, cocktail shakers and touches of gold that add a chic retro feel and are lovely ways to reflect light.

  • Antique Furniture and Accessories: Specially sourced one-of-a-kind pieces that bring spaces to life with their heritage and textures.

  • Vintage Style Rugs: Handwoven, patterned rugs that anchor rooms with a rich tapestry.

Biophilic Design {a design movement inspired by nature}

Our connection to nature is more important than ever, and biophilic design helps us bring the outside in. Biophilia focuses on earthy colours, flowers, and plants and materials like wood, stone, and wool which helps create a calming and grounding atmosphere in the home.

We've integrated biophilic elements with:

  • Wooden Furniture: With our rustic wooden dining table, stools dotted around the house and and benches that add warmth and a touch of nature.

  • Natural Textiles: Woollen throws, cotton cushions, and linen curtains to enhance the cosy, earthy feel.

  • Plants and flowers: Of course, no room at Trinity Lodge is complete without these!

Personalisation

The days of mass-produced interiors are fading fast. Today, it's all about making your home a true reflection of your personality with unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that tell your story and a narrative of those who live in your home.

Our personalised touches include:

  • Custom Artwork and Frames: Unique pieces that I’ve remastered add a truly personal touch to our walls.

  • Naming Rooms: This was a controversial choice to many who follow me on Instagram, but we absolutely love the unique personalisation and craftsmanship that went into creating the names on the doors of our rooms – Galloway, Cambrian, Hotton, Plover, Tump, and there may well be more to come soon!

  • Glow Up: We didn’t want to rush into a kitchen renovation so opted for a ‘glow up’. We sanded and limewaxed the worktop, repainted the gloss cupboards to a matt finish, replaced the handles with solid brass pull handles and painted the tiles to give a us a space that felt fresh and a lot more like us without the expense of a whole new kitchen.

Conclusion

2024 is all about creating homes that are unique, personal, and connected to nature. By embracing retro and vintage elements, incorporating biophilic design, and adding personal touches, you can transform your space into a sanctuary that is all about you and your family. I hope our home inspires you to bring these trends to life in your own unique way.
