Create a Delicate Garden Bowl in Under 5 Mins

Watch time 3.5 mins

Materials

Small bowl with high sides (nibble bowl or cereal bowl)

Pin frog or Kenzan

Flower cutters or secateurs

Water

Flowers used in this example: Daucus Carota, Clematis, Papaver, Ranunculus

Steps

  1. Start by collecting some stems from the garden and place them in cool water. Cut the stems at an angle, this allows the stems to absorb more water.

  2. Prepare your bowl by placing the flower pin frog in the centre of the bowl, pin side up. A flower pin frog is a small metal grid with spikes that help to hold the stems of the flowers in place.

  3. Take one stem and trim it to your desired length. Place the stem in the centre of the flower pin frog, pushing the stem down until it holds in position. Continue until you have your desired arrangement.

  4. Once you have added all the stems, take a step back and assess the arrangement. If you see any gaps or areas that need more coverage, add more stems until you are happy with the final look.

  5. Finally, fill the bowl with cool water to ensure that the flowers stay hydrated and fresh for as long as possible.

That's it! Enjoy the beauty of your arrangement on a table, mantle or window ledge.

NB. The floral ‘blue tac’ that I mention is to hold the frog in place to stop it moving in the bowl, but should generally not be needed if you have delicate stems.
