Wild in the Wolds at Grand Designs Live {October 2023}

At the start of October Mr J and I travelled down to Grand Designs Live in Birmingham, I had been invited by ufurnish.com to share some guidance on creating interior mood boards. In my talk, "Crafting Interior Moodboards: Exploring Digital and Haptic Approaches to Create Your Next Dream Space," I shared the dynamic interplay between digital and hands-on approaches and the benefits of using both methods.

Mood boards are invaluable for those on the journey to design a dream space. They serve as visual plans for conceptualising, collecting ideas, and bringing a vision to life. The key to elevating the design lies in understanding the intricate combination of both digital and tactile aspects.

During the talk, I covered digital tools and techniques that empower individuals to curate mood boards for themselves and how integrating images, colours, textures, and product choices offers a comprehensive view of an aspiration.

However, mood boarding extends beyond the digital sphere, such as using Canva or Adobe Express. Incorporating tactile items, such as fabric swatches, tiles and paint samples, along with the use of unconventional materials can add a unique dimension to the process.

I included a short demo on creating these haptic mood boards {haptic means Sense of Touch} which went down very well with the audience across the two sessions.

In summary, my time at Grand Designs Live was a lovely, but tiring experience and I realised that so many people want to learn the art of creating mood boards for themselves. So, I’m going to be launching some mood boarding workshops from January where I’ll guide you through the process in much more detail.
